My beloved and I enjoy a stroll along Monterey’s Coast Guard Pier. For such a short walk, the jetty provides a protective cove that sees little boat traffic, so it allows for a high probability of wildlife action. On one cool afternoon, we watched a small Brandt’s cormorant diving and swimming between the docks. While there were plenty of pelagic crabs, this fellow left those for the gulls and instead dove for the flashing sardine and rock fish far below.
