My Beloved’s Birthday

One of my first harvest Marketmore cukes joined the antipasto for the my beloved’s birthday dinner (plus Tony Packo’s sweet hot Brittany tomatoes). I brought in a bit more Toledo with Sofo’s Marinara over Mark’s MeatBalls alongside my first attempt at grilled romaine for the Caeser. This paired well with a bottle of Lone Wolf Red that I pulled from my “cellar.”  I bought the bottle at the winery in Paso Robles a few years back and remember the visit well.  It is where I learned the correct pronunciation of Meritage.  “It’s Meritage like ‘heritage.’ We’re Americans not French.”  Cranberry nose with cherry/spice at mid-palate, finishes with mocha.  It was a great accompaniment to the meal and quickly disappeared.
